SUSHMITA SEN ................

Sushmita Sen’s uncensored autobiography!! July 29, 2006

Sushmita Sen, the former Miss Universe who has had a controversy filled career as an actress, is writing her autobiography. The name of the autobiography will be The Butterfly.

Sushmita Sen is already working on her autobiography. In her trademark style, she will shock the readers through startling revelations that are sure to ruffle more than just a few feathers.

In fact, she has been writing this book for a long time. Only now has the decided on the title.

She remarked, “I'm sure readers will sit up on reading the book. Not that it will be very different from what people know of me as a person,” and went on to say, “So far, different people had written different things about me. But now I'd like to share some truths which no one has written to date, with my readers. I want to show them a different side of myself.”

An interesting perspective to the whole idea will be her motherhood. To which, she says, “I have never hidden anything from anyone, and do not intend to do so in the book either. I smoke in Renee's presence and she keeps reprimanding me by saying, 'Mama you'll have a big hole in your lung'. But she knows that her mother is not perfect. I can't ask my child to be true to me if I lie about myself to her. My book will be an honest account of my life.”

Asked if she would also be equally honest about her former boyfriends, she replied, “Hey, I would not like to censor anything at all, not even the ugliest incidents or aspects of my life”. However, she added, “But I don't know whether the men in my life would like it were I to write about our life together, uncensored. That is my only concern. I can't jeopardize the life of others at the cost of being honest. But yes, I will mention each and every incident in my life, even though I may not mention names. Personally, though I would love to mention them all and would be grateful if they allowed me to name them too”.

Admitting that she does not have much time to write, she said she tries to fit this into her busy shooting schedule.

Sushmita, who is said to have suicidal tendencies, when asked about this, said “I know where the question is coming from. When I saw the promo of Ankahee where Esha is holding a gun to her head, I was disappointed. People said that Vikram was making a film inspired by our relationship. But I think he overdid it, which was unfair. I love my life and I consider it God's gift".

Sushmita Sen Biography

Sushmita Sen,born November 19, 1975 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India is a well-known Bollywood actress and was India's first Miss Universe in 1994.
Sushmita's father Shubeer Sen is a former Indian Air Force officer; her mother Subhra Sen worked as a fashion artist and jewellery designer. She has one brother, Rajeev Sen, and a sister, Neelam Sen.

Sushmita's mother tongue is Bengali. She was born in Andra Pradesh, but grew up in Delhi. She attended school at Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute and Air Force Silver in Delhi, and later, schools in Nagpur and Jorhat. In Delhi, she studied English and planned a career in journalism.

In 2000, she adopted a daughter, Renee.

In 1994 at the age of eighteen, Sushmita won the title of Miss India (beating out Aishwarya Rai). Later that year, she became the first Indian Miss Universe in the Miss Universe Pageant held in the Philippines and one of the youngest women to ever win the title. She then started working as an actress.

Her first movie, Ratchakan in Tamil, was a huge flop. Her subsequent movies like Dastak in 1996, where she played the victim of a stalker, too didn't do well at the cinema. But her appearance as Rupali in David Dhawan's movie Biwi No. 1 won her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in 1999. So far, her biggest hit has been the 2004 movie Main Hoon Na, in which she starred as Shah Rukh Khan's love interest. Later on, she played a lawyer in Main Aisa Hi Hoon opposite Ajay Devgan. In 2005, she also starred in a remake of Cactus Flower, called Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya: Sen played the lead opposite Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif and essayed the role of Ingrid Bergman. Her most recent movies include Chingaari (2005) as a prostitute, Gulel (2006) and Karma, Confessions and Holi (2006) opposite Drena DeNiro and Naomi Campbell.

Sushmita the Delhi girl took the world by storm in 1994, when she was crowned Miss Universe. This Delhi girl with very ordinary looks was the youngest amongst the seventy-seven participants, at just 18. Absolutely no one had predicted that this dark horse of the contest would emerge as the winner.

She was frank enough to admit after the competition that she was not the most beautiful woman of the world but it was her figure, personality, demeanour and the way she presented her country that brought her the honour.

Born in a middle class family at Hyderabad on November 19, 1975 Sushmita tore apart many a myth and pre- conceived notions of the abilities of middle class girl in the field of glamour. It may come as a surprise to many that she had not studied English till her ninth standard her entire schooling till that time being in Hindi. Standing 5” 10’ she is tall by Indian standards, but she admits that height was her forte in Miss Universe contest. Little could she have imagined what destiny had in store for her after the title? She went abroad to about thirty countries and met world leaders and discussed with them topics as diverse as war and peace, environment, poverty, friendship and goodwill.

When she came back home she was flooded with offers from films. But she took her time to settle and take her pick. Ultimately she made her debut in Mahesh Bhatt production, Dastak. Many called it mimicry of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Darr. The film flopped at the box office and along with it died the euphoria amongst the masses to see Miss Universe perform on the celluloid. During those days she had a torrid yet very brief affair with Vikram Bhatt, who was married and had children. Though they always categorically denied rumours.

The failure of Dastak brought not only brought misery for her but an acute yearning for success too. She pinned high hopes on Zor co- starred by Sunny Deol. Her role was subservient to that of Hero. But Zor also failed to lift her sagging graph and her spirits. Sushmita now hovering around fringes of industry desperately needed a hit to reincarnate herself. This she got in David Dhawan’s Biwi No.1. While she played a supporting role with Karishma Kapoor she won critical acclaim for her performance by making her role stand out. The movie was the biggest hit that year. She also won the award for Best Actress in supporting role.

In 1999, she again played a side role in semi- successful Sirf Tum. Later Aaghaz could add no colour to her career and Govinda’s comedy Kyo Kii...Main Jhuth Nahin Boltha did nothing to refurbish her image. Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai, Tum ko Na Bhool Payenge, did an average business to just ensure that she was not pushed into oblivion. But Megha Gulzar’s Filhal did fill the void which was create din her celebrity hood by a series of flops. She played role of a surrogate mother and came out with a brilliant performance and put her mark on the parallel cinema as well.

Sushmita is now a mother. She adopted a baby girl from a local orphanage to have the joys of motherhood without undergoing labour pains. She has named her Renee, after the Frencdh Godess of Love. Sushmita takes every joy in bringing her up and proudly mentions about her to friends and acquaintances. She believes that Renee will some day grow up to be a lady of great repute much in the foot steps of her mother.

A person reared in the cocoon of cantonment life, in a middle-class suburb of Delhi, now showered with attention of global proportions. An ambassador of feminine beauty, peace, love, and optimism, at an age most kids are worried about getting a driving-license and a drinking permit. That's Sushmita Sen. That's Miss Universe, 1994 orginally born on 19th Nov 1975.

Sushmita made her debut in Dastak in the role of a vulnerable girl being stalked by a psycho (Sharad Kapoor). The film was a dud at the box office. Soon another flop Zor followed. Things were not going right for Sush.

Then Sushmita did a comic role in David Dhawan’s Biwi No.1 and caught movie buff’s attention. She had a flair for the comedy. She also did a romantic role opposite Abhishek Bachchan in Bus Itna Sa Khwab Hai. Unfortunately this movie too bombed at the box office. Recently she was seen in a very realistic role in Meghna Gulzar’s directorial debut Filhaal. She has got very rave reviews for convincing portrayal of her character in the film.

Sushmita is intelligent, but it's an intelligence as yet untainted by realism. Before all this happened, here was yet a gossamer world, tipped between the cradle and the crown. Creative rather than literal, poetic rather than pedantic, it is these very qualities that endeared her to the viewers and judges.

She has led a rather normal filmi existence and has had her fair share of carping critics, her erratic lifestyle, her unpunctual ways, her live in relationships, her much married boyfriend Vikram Bhatt, her phenomenal asking price, her undeflated ego, her problem and consequent patch up with Akshay Kumar, all have brought her morethan her share of flak.

Finally on 13 April 2000 she was given the go-ahead to adopt her, even though the family-owned business in Dubai was already re-named as 'Renee' quite ironically a year earlier on 13 April 1999.
