Gulshan Grover Biography
Gulshan Grover (born 21 September 1955) is an Indian actor.
Born and brought up in Delhi, Grover has been more bad than good when its come to his career. He began his acting career with the feature film Rocky (starring Sanjay Dutt) and has since acted in over 300 films. Spanning over a decade, his work includes some of the biggest national hits of all times and his awards span the most prestigious accolades in India.
He was graduated from Delhi unversity.He always planned to do something which can make him popular.So he was not concern to be an actor of lead role but he was wowed to be popular so what came first for him he accepted. He is famous for his role as a villain in many movies. He has also starred in some Hollywood movies.
But for a handful of sensitive performances, like Avataar, Sohni Mahiwal, Ram Lakhan and the likes, he swayed with the trends in Bollywood and resorted to hideous make-ups and voice contortions to play a spate of ‘baddie’ roles.
The choice to be bad has been a natural one, but it hasn't been for lack of trying. Grover's reportoire extends from playing the good guy roles like the one he essayed in Nagesh Kukunoor's Teen Deewarein, where he plays the reformist-jailor, to being the worst man in the vicinity - a role like Chattan Singh in Soumitra Ranade's Janjantram, Mamamtram. Incidentally, few know that Grover also lent his voice to a song in the film!
But there was a period where villains almost became an endangered species in Bollywood, and Gulshan Grover flew to the West and did a sequel to Disney's The Jungle Book. He soon became a ‘likeable’ villain and his reputation reached unprecedented heights. He also scored a professional coup by becoming the first and only Bollywood star to be tapped by a Washington-based company to appear in television commercials for its international long-distance dialing number.
He has worked in 5 foreign films, including the Tibetan We’re No Monks and the Italian Les, Mystères de Sadjurah where he played the main villain as a rebel chief.
He was the celebrity guest of the Grand Prix of Italy held at Monza on September 10th 2006.
Gulshan will be one of the characters in a comic book 'Nephilim' to be published by Los Angeles-based Marsh Hawk Productions. The comic book is created and directed by Danny Wilson and produced by Susan Moses.'Nephilim' will be first published as a comic book and later turned into a full-fledged action film — a first for Grover in the sense that this is the first time an Indian actor has been chosen to be a character in a comic book. Grover plays the bad guy Azazel in the film and the comic character has been designed in keeping with Grover’s features in mind.
Grover has of late been involved in doing a good turn for aspiring actors by serving as an ambassador for the new Audition for Hollywood Website which provides actors the chance to display their talents to entertainment industry decision makers.
