RANI MUKHERJEE........

Rani Mukherjee Detailed Biography

Rani Mukherjee was born on 21 Mar '78. She is the daughter of director Ram Mukherjee. Being a cousin of the most successful actress Kajol, it's obvious that Rani too has got it through her genetic influences to enact the roles she's given. And it's a phenomenon that unless Rani hasn't put loads of concentration and tremendous personal effort in the roles she plays, she wouldn't have been where she is now.

Though she had the introduction into the Bollywood through her first movie Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, she was in the news with her wonderful performance in Ghulam and with the third movie Rani was in headlines again receiving the Best Supporting Actress award from Filmfare for her active and playful performance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai thus enhancing herself in the Bollywood.

Rani was proud to be associated with actor-director Kamal Haasan and was thrilled to have his film 'Hey Ram' in her lap. But the film did not propel her career to the extent she had expected. The relationship of Rani with Govinda had become quiet a hot topic of discussion amongst colleagues and the press. The Yash Chopra production 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge' flopped but her acting is very much appreciated in the film.

A series of unsuccessful runs have not dampened her giggly self. She continues to be sprightly and seen in popular ads, the Fanta ad being the latest. Recently seen in "Yuva," "Hum Tum", she's currently busy filming several films including "1857: The Rising" and "Bajirao Mastani." Rani got the devastating looks, charm and a beautiful face the one thing that seperates her from the great and successful actress. In a span of 5 years she has worked with all the top actors and top class producers and the directors.

Rani Mukherjee made her debut in a powerful performance in the unexpected hit "Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat" and since then there has been no looking back. From the mascot of women's voice for justice she went on to become the "Aati Kya Khandala" girl of Aamir Khan in "Ghulam" and stole the limelight as Shah Rukh Khan's glamorous wife in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

The face of many varied roles ranging from movies in a lighter vien like "Hello Brother", to the more serious roles like Kamal Haasan's Bengali wife in "Hey! Ram".And just when we thought we had seen all shades there were to Rani, she as usual din't fail to make us sit up and applaud her performences in other such chart toppers like "Hadh Kar Di Aapne",similarly with Bobby Deol in "Bichoo"directed by Guddu Dhanoa and in "Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega" with Salman and Preity Zinta directed by Raj Kanwar. Some of her other big hits include Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Saathiya, Chalte Chalte, Kal Ho Na Kal, Yuva and the highly acclaimed Black, for which this talented actor bagged a lot of awards.

She comes from a film-clan family of Bengali origin: Her father, Ram Mukherjee is a retired director. Her mother Krishna used to be a playback singer, while her brother Raja Mukherjee is a film producer. Her maternal aunt is Debashree Roy. The popular Bollywood actress, Kajol, is her second cousin.
She began her film career with the Bengali film Biyer Phool. Her first Hindi film was Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat (1996), which did not do well at the box office. However, her next two releases - Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) - were India-wide hits. For the latter she received her first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Mukerji was signed on for a great many movies after these successes. Unfortunately, most of them did average business at the box office. The commercial and critical success of Saathiya in 2002 is widely believed to have revived her career.
Mukerji has been romantically linked with actors such as Govinda, Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and most recently, director Aditya Chopra. All parties have, however, strongly denied these rumours.

While in school at the age of 14, Mukerji did a cameo role in her father's Bengali film Biyar Phool (1992). In 1994, Salim Akhtar, a family friend, offered her a film called Aa Gale Lag Jaa (1994) but her father was against it as she was too young.
