Priyanka Chopra, is an Indian actress and Miss World 2000.

Priyanka was born on July 18, 1982 in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India to Ashok and Madhu Chopra née Sankaran, both doctors.She also has a brother.Her father is a Punjabi-Bengali-Marathi and her mother is a Tamil-Malayali-Kannada from Tamil Nadu. Her mother's family members were from Madurai and Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu, Udupi in Karnataka and Kozhikode in Kerala.

She spent part of her childhood in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Her family frequently moved since her father was in the Army. She studied at La Martiniere Girls' College in Lucknow, as a young girl and later came to the United States, where she was a student at Newton North High School, in Newton, Massachusetts and North Delta Senior Secondary High School in North Delta before returning to India to complete high school at Army Public School (Bareilly). She began college at Jai Hind College in Mumbai but left after winning the Miss World pageant. Priyanka's Father is also a very good singer.



Priyanka was crowned Miss India World and later Miss World in 2000. In the same year, Lara Dutta and Diya Mirza, both from India, won the Miss Universe and Miss Asia Pacific crowns, in a rare triple.When she won the Miss World crown, she became the fifth Indian woman to win the title, and the fourth Indian woman to win in a span of seven years.




After winning the Miss World title, Priyanka became an actress. She first acted in a Tamil film Thamizhan (2002) and since then has acted in many Bollywood films. She then acted in a series of flops until Mujhse Shaadi Karogi in (2004) which was her second hit. She followed it up with Aitraaz, a Hindi remake of the Demi Moore-starrer Disclosure which was yet another box office success.

In the same year, she participated in a world tour aptly titled "Temptations 2004" with Bollywood's leading stars, including Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta and Arjun Rampal.In 2005, she had many releases, though most did moderately at the box office.But her film Bluffmaster which released late in 2005 was one of the biggest hits of 2005.



In 2006, she worked in two of the most successful films of the year - Krrish and Don - The Chase Begins Again. She has also recently been on the hit chat show "Koffee with Karan".

Priyanka Chopra was voted Sexiest Asian Woman of 2006 in Eastern Eye, an Asian newspaper published in Britain.

Mini Biography

Priyanka was born on July 18, 1982, in the Chopra family consisting of her dad, Dr. Ashok and mom, Dr. Madhu (nee Akhauri), and has one younger brother. Her dad is Punjabi-speaking, while her mom is from Bihar. As a child, she suffered from Asthma and was very close to her dad. Her family affectionately called her Mimi.



While she was born in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, she also spent her childhood in Rae Barreilly, in Uttar Pradesh as well as in Lucknow, where she was enrolled in the La Martiniere Girls' School. These frequent re-locations took place as Ashok was a doctor in the Indian Army. She subsequently re-located to the U.S. where she studied in Newton's Newton North High School and then in Cedar Rapid's John F. Kennedy High School in Massachusetts and Iowa respectively.

In 2000 she returned to India and enrolled in Jai Hind College and Basant Singh Institute of Science in Churchgate, Bombay, but had to leave abruptly as she was crowned Miss India. She was subsequently crowned Miss World in the same year - a year which proved to be a year for Indian Beauty Queens - as Lara Dutta and Dia Mirza were also crowned Miss Universe and Miss Asia Pacific respectively. Ironically, beauty pageants are banned in India's conservative state, Uttar Pradesh.



After completing her responsibilities as a Beauty Queen, she first appeared on the tinsel screen in India in a Tamil movie 'Thamizhan'.

She made her debut in Bollywood with 'The Hero' in 2002, and then went on to act in over 28 movies, as well as lent her voice as a playback singer in 'Barsaat (2005)'. She has won 11 awards to date for her performance in 'Andaaz', 'Aitraaz', 'The Hero', 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi', & 'Krrish'.

As of June 2007, she is involved in the filming of 'Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam', 'Kajri', 'Drona', 'London Dreams', 'Qurbani', 'Chamki Chameli', 'Love Story 2050' amongst others.

After winning the title of Miss India World and later becoming Miss World in 2000, Priyanka made her acting debut with the Tamil film Thamizhan in 2001. Two years later, she made her Bollywood debut with Anil Sharma's 'The Hero: Love Story of a Spy'. But she tasted success only with her second Hindi film release, 'Andaaz.

It won her the award for the Filmfare Best Female Debut. She then went on to make critics sit up and notice her when she won the Filmfare Best Villain Award for her performance in Abbas-Mustan's 'Aitraaz' in 2004. Even commercially, her career started picking up with films like 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi' in 2004, 'Krrish' in 2006 and Farhan Akhtar's Don - The Chase Begins Again, also in 2006.



There were of course duds like Harry Baweja's Love Story 2050 and Rumi Jafery's God Tussi Great Ho. But that shouldn't be cause for much worry as Priyanka has films like Goldie Behl's Drona opposite Abhishek Bachchan, Chamku in opposite Bobby Deol, Dostana opposite Abhishek and John Abraham, Ashutosh Gowariker's What's Your Raashee? with Harman Baweja and Madhur Bhandrakar's Fashion in her kitty.

The lady has made her place in Bollywood and is today one of the most wanted actresses in B Town, having acted opposite all the biggies like Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan. She is here for the long haul.
